GIS-to-CAD Feature Class definitions - zip file of the IDHS data model for five target layers
Activities are updated after IGIC board meetings, roughly once per quarter. If you'd like more information about a specific project or initiative in the interim, feel free to contact the workgroup chair or the IGIC Offices.
Mike Condre has almost completed the CAD translation of the two geodatabase sources – the modified, partial SDSFIE, and the Utilities one. He plans to have this published along with the Workgroup's latest document at the annual Indiana GIS Conference. The first meeting after the conference will be for comments and edits. By the April meeting the Workgroup will have crafted the final deliverables: XML, CAD Template, Geodatabase schema, and explanatory Word / PDF doc and a PowerPoint deck for education. May 4th Workgroup members will convene, congratulate each other, and prepare for public rollout and response.
The Workgroup's progress has been minimal the last two months (or at least will be, for November and December) due to time constraints. Jayson Troughton has completed a preliminary geodatabase incorporating the compiled utility data. It will be Mike Condre’s task to back-engineer a compatible CAD standard. The Workgroup also has a document-in-progress detailing their effort, which will become the basis for future training. The Workgroup is hoping to extend the deadline and re-schedule some sessions for the first quarter of 2010. They plan to have at least a draft for selected review by the User Conference.
The CAD-GIS Integration Workgroup has met monthly since our last report. We are continuing to compile our guidelines and hope to publish them by the end of the year.
The CAD-GIS Integration Workgroup met on July 28, 2009. We continued developing our standards:
We have posted our progress so far in the form of DWG and XML files on the IGIC website.
Our next meeting is set for Tuesday, August 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will be available as an online collaboration at https://www1.gotomeeting.com/join/707940880 (Thanks to Jayson Troughton).
We expect to meet our 2009 goal to publish a summary of CAD specifications for the four framework data layers (parcels, road centerlines, address points and boundaries) that are already part of the Data Sharing Agreement as a starting point. It appears we will also be able to offer guidelines and template data for local jurisdictions to adopt for several more layers that are commonly generated or modified in the activities of annexation, incorporation and infrastructure development.
The CAD-GIS Integration Workgroup met for two hours on May 26th and discussed:
There was discussion on the local municipal niche of this group. The Workgroup revisited briefly the six basic components that the draft specification guidelines should address:
The Workgroup will try to identify who they believe the draft spec guidelines are intended to serve. They will consider impacts of draft specs on approving agencies as well as the efforts of Jim Sparks, GIO and Roger Koelpin, IDHS.
There was discussion on the layer list for the IndianaMap, and the Workgroup began assigning responsibilities for preparing a draft specification guideline for the related local/municipal CAD layers:
The CAD-GIS Integration Workgroup met twice in 2008, and established a common understanding of the basic goals. The Workgroup has collected a variety of inputs, resources, and good examples to follow.
In 2009, the Workgroup plans to publish a summary of all critical layers necessary to address the CAD-GIS process. The Workgroup will use the schema and specifications for the four framework data layers (parcels, road centerlines, address points and boundaries) that are already part of the Data Sharing Agreement as a starting point.
