IGIC Announces 2017 David C. Ford Special Achievement Award Recipient

The David C. Ford award is presented by the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) to an individual or organization for exemplary service and dedication above and beyond duties for accomplishments in coordinating Indiana GIS through dissemination of data and data products, education and outreach, adoption of standards, building partnerships, and advancing the IndianaMap.

IGIC is pleased to announce that Mr. Rick Hill is the recipient of our David C. Ford Special Achievement Award this year.

Rick is the Assistant Director for Technical Services at the Indiana Geological Survey, where among many other responsibilities, Rick leads the design, development and vision of IndianaMap.  Rick has been involved in GIS and has also helped build our GIS community since its beginning, first helping organize our first ArcInfo Users Group Conference in 1987, and the first University GIS Alliance (UGISA) conference in 1990.  GIS is an important tool at Indiana Geological Survey, but through Rick’s leadership and vision, IndianaMap goes way beyond just serving the needs of IGS, to serve the entire State of Indiana.

Rick will be retiring from IGS next month, but this is not slowing him down; IndianaMap Version 4.0, a new major release, will be announced and demonstrated by Rick and his IGS team at our conference this year in Bloomington.

Rick is leaving a long legacy of success and service to Indiana’s GIS community, and that is why we are so pleased to recognize him this year.

2017 Award Lunch Ceremony

Rick will be presented the David C. Ford award during IGIC’s Annual Indiana GIS Conference on Wednesday, May 10th in Bloomington, IN at the Monroe County Convention Center.

IGIC’s 2017 conference will have over 250 geospatial professionals attending from across Indiana, so this the ideal venue to recognize Rick’s service.

2017 David C. Ford Award Reception

IGIC will also host an awards reception (cash-bar) on Tuesday evening, May 9th starting at 7:30 pm in the William J. Finch room located on the ground floor of the Monroe County Convention Center.

IGIC is inviting Rick’s friends, family, work colleagues, and folks from Indiana’s GIS community to stop by to celebrate with us.  This reception is open to everyone, you do not need to be attending the conference to drop by to honor Rick as our 2017 recipient.
