The power of nature to produce economic and social devastation has been demonstrated far too often in the past few years. As floods, earthquakes, fires, and other natural hazards continue to impact the communities where we live the importance of having data and tools such as GIS to understand and mitigate risks is becoming ever more important. During this webinar you will learn about creative ways that GIS is being applied in Indiana and elsewhere in support of hazard identification, risk analysis, and communication. The presenters will also offer a number of examples of best practices in Indiana and elsewhere in the US.

Kevin Mickey – Kevin has over 27 years of consulting experience with multiple federal agencies as well as many state and local government, private sector, academic, and not-for-profit entities.  For the past decade he has been focused on directing and supporting projects that include the creation of geospatial tools and workflows related to natural hazard risk. This includes supporting the governments of Canada and Singapore by providing recommendations on flood risk mitigation tools and strategies.  He has offered presentations, training and consulting services addressing a variety of geospatial tools and topics in over 100 cities in 36 states and 10 countries. This includes serving as a lead instructor since 2003 for the FEMA Emergency Management Institute. Kevin is a recognized expert in FEMA’s Hazus-MH technology and supporting methodology. Kevin is also Adjunct Associate Faculty for the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI where he teaches graduate courses in the application of geographic information systems tools and concepts for emergency management and public safety.

Keri Brennan – Keri is a Product Manager for Michael Baker International (MBI) and has worked in the field of GIS for the past 25 years. Her primary duties involve collaborating with MBI’s clients and development team in order to implement NG911 GIS solutions for local governments.

Keri has been active in many different areas of geospatial data development, consulting and training. Before working for MBI, she was a GIS Education Program Manager for The Schneider Corporation, which is the largest surveying, engineering and GIS firm in the Midwest. In this role, she was responsible for developing and implementing training on ESRI and custom GIS applications for both the classroom and the web. She also was able to gain experience in on-site training, as she consulted across a 15-state range from South Dakota to the Carolinas.
