IGIC Webinar – NextGen 911 and Geospatial Preparedness

DATE/TIME:  Thursday, March 23, 2017 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

ABSTRACT:  Eighty percent of emergency calls come from a wireless device.  Public safety needed to change the way these calls are routed, and the need for better location information is evident.  The methods through which the public communicates with 9-1-1 has changed dramatically in the past decade.  Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) will lean on the use of GIS, for accurate, timely and reliable location information.

The NG9-1-1 and Geospatial Preparedness webinar will discuss the functions of NG9-1-1 that involve GIS.  We will dive further into the data needed from GIS to support NG9-1-1, discuss the status and challenges of existing data resources, and finally highlight the ideas for next steps.
