Layer Updates

We have just updated two layers to IndianaMap. If you are a frequent user of these data, please use the links below to access the Layer Gallery to download data and metadata for each of the layers.

  • We have updated the layer showing “Floodplains FIRM” to the Hydrology folder of the map. It represents the latest release by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) as of May 19, 2015. It shows floodplains and flood hazard areas, derived from FEMA Flood Rate Insurance Maps (FIRM). The FIRM are the basis for floodplain management, mitigation, and insurance activities for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FIS’s and FIRM’s, and new mapping data, where available. This database is an interim version of the DFIRM Database and does not fully meet all DFIRM specifications.

  • We have also updated the download file structure of the “Elevation Contours 24K (USGS)” layer found in the Reference folder of the map. It shows elevation contours provided by 7.5-minute digital topographic quadrangle maps of the USGS (DRGs). Contour interval is typically 10 feet. Elevation Contours (1:24,000) – Shows elevation contours provided by 7.5-minute digital topographic quadrangle maps of the USGS (DRGs). Contour interval is typically 10 feet. NOTE: For convenience of downloading, the original DLG data of 1:24,000 quadrangles that are grouped into blocks of 30-minute by 1-degree (1:100,000) quadrangles have now been converted to a statewide Esri File Geodatabase format.
