Purpose of Position/Summary:

Employee works in the GIS section of the Management Information Systems (MIS) Division in Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) at a senior level, and reports to the manager of the section. Employee utlizes ESRI Products (ArcGIS, Collector and Roads and Highways, etc.) and .NET development tools to develop and maintain GIS applications.


  • Collect business requirements for GIS applications;
  • Use GIS software development tools to produce map products and software solutions, including web, desktop and mobile solutions;
  • Test applications and conduct end user training;
  • Provide assistance in the resolution of technical issues during and after application development and implementation.
  • Provide project and systems status reports to MIS and INDOT management.
  • Manage GIS datasets that are base layers for agency wide use and special one-off layers for data analysis requests;
  • Assist in the administration of GIS software server environment.
  • Conduct research of new technologies and lead proof of concept projects.
  • Communicate with all levels of department, contractors, vendors and other State agency personnel.
  • Review and critique the work of other team members.

Preferred Experience:

  • Advanced understanding of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience with all phases of SDLC required;
  • Advanced understanding of ESRI Products (ArcGIS, Collector and Roads and Highways, etc.) required;
  • Advanced understanding of .NET development, Microsoft Visual Studio, Python and JavaScript required;
  • Working experience with Oracle data bases desired;
  • Good oral and written communication skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in GIS or related field required.

Position is located in vibrant downtown Indianapolis, parking provided.  Minimum salary is $54,782.
