Job Opening – Assistant Director of Information Services, Indiana Geological Survey

The Indiana Geological Survey, a research institute of Indiana University, seeks applications for an Assistant Director of Information Services to serve as the chief information officer for the institute.
Job Summary:   The Assistant Director of Information Services (ADIS), an integral member of the IGS Administration, manages the day-to-day operations of the Information Service Division activities, where the ADIS advises, coordinates, and facilitates the division projects. Directs the Information Services staff, reviews all proposals, publications, and major deliverables, establishes project and program goals, and assures that staff projects and programs represent the goals of the organization. Manages and oversees the physical building facilities, field services, and the institute’s vehicle motor pool, serves as the building representative to IU Facility Operations, and chairs the IGS Safety and Emergency Action Committee.
Remains current with emerging information technologies (hardware and software) and maintains a functional knowledge of geological and hydrological principles and standards to provide the services needed by the IGS research staff. As new IT needs are identified, responds quickly with strategies and provides innovative services to meet research needs. Works closely with the research staff, adjusts personnel and budget priorities, and seeks funding from outside agencies. Determines how best to use the limited funding of the organization and still provide state-of-the art technology to meet research staff needs.
Required Qualifications:  REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in an information technology/services field and five years of experience in management.
Knowledge of software packages used in office work (Microsoft Office suite), illustration (Adobe Creative suite), cartography (Esri suite), and scientific studies (i.e., Matlab, R, Golden software suites). Functional understanding of network hardware and software, desktop computers, and mobile devices. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including a customer service orientation and ability to interact and communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Possess basic knowledge of earth science principles.
Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s degree; experience in management in the information services sector.
Salary Range: $78,000 – $82,000
